Ludlow
Dinham Bridge with castle in background Ludlow High Street
Ludlow is situated on the A49, south of Craven Arms. If you visit Ludlow (which you must), don't take the bypass!
It is one of the most beautiful country towns that you could wish to visit. Ludlow is very firmly on the tourist trail and welcomes visitors from all over the world.
Ludlow has it all - castle, walks, an annual Shakespeare Festival, black and white buildings in abundance, a river for boating, pubs galore with B and B facilities, and it is within easy reach of such places as Worcester, Hereford, and Gloucester.
We love it and are regular visitors even though we last lived there in 1969.
Our youngest son, Philip, was born in The East Hamlet Hospital in 1968.
Recently we have stayed at The Charlton Arms Hotel with great satisfaction.
On your visit to Ludlow, De Grey's Cafe is a must for your afternoon coffee or high tea - their scones are scrumptious and take home a few Chester cakes to eat afterwards.
Ludlow is rapidly becoming known for its gastronomic delights and is featured very favourably on the web, particularly at www.dine-online.co.uk and the item below is from one of their reports.
Ludlow has always had a reputation for being
"the most beautiful and distinguished country town in England" but
more recently it has gained a further reputation as a foodie paradise. Media
coverage - press, television, radio and now the internet - has let the general
public into the well kept secret that within this ancient rural town can be
found some of the best restaurants in the country. It is rumoured that in the
New Year the gentlemen at Michelin will honour it with the highest concentration
of accolades for such a small area. Thus Dine Online sent its intrepid reviewer Fred
Chan to sample some of the delights of this wonderful town.
His first stop was at Overton Grange.
Also highly praised are The
Oaks and The
Merchant House
